MNA Feature Desk: The 125th birth anniversary of great Bengali leader Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy was observed yesterday.
Different socio-cultural organizations placed wreaths on the grave of Suhrawardy, one of the great leaders of the sub-continent, at Doyel Chattar near Dhaka University campus.
Suhrwardy, former chief minister of united Bengal in 1946 and prime minister of Pakistan in 1956, was born on September 8, 1892 in Medinipore, West Bengal and died on December 5, 1963.
Born into a prominent Bengali Muslim family, Suhrawardy was educated at Oxford and joined the Swaraj Party of Chittaranjan Das upon returning to India in 1921.
On December 5, 1963, this great leader died in Beirut, far from home, his close ones and his beloved people. Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy was the vigilant sentinel of democracy. In any situation of political life, democracy was his prime principle. On his birth anniversary we remember this great leader with respect.
