Traffic restriction on 25 points near Suhrawardy Udyan Thursday

MNA National Desk: Traffic on two roads and 25 locations in Dhaka near Suhrawardy Udyan will remain closed for a few hours on Thursday as part of heightened security measures during the Islamic Foundation Conference. The ‘Ulama-Mashayekh Grand Conference’ marking 42nd founding anniversary of the Islamic Foundation will be held at Suhrawardy Udyan. Organizers expect more than 200,000 participants, including the leaders of Saudi Arabia’s Masjid-e-Haram and Masjid-e-Nababi at the conference. Death toll rises to 18 in Sandwip boat capsize

MNA National Desk: The death toll in the boat capsize in Chittagong’s Sandwip has risen to 18 after four more bodies were recovered on Wednesday. On Sunday evening, a boat carrying passengers to the shore of the island Upazila of Sandwip from a larger vessel sank with approximately 40 people on board. The local administration has provided Tk 25,000 to the family members of the deceased and handed over the bodies to their families. MNA International Desk: The death toll from a suspected chemical weapons attack on a rebel-held Syrian town has risen to 72, including 20 children, sources said on Wednesday. “There were also 17 women among the dead and the death toll could rise further because there are people missing,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. Insurgent groups led by former Al-Qaeda affiliate Fateh al-Sham Front vowed revenge for Tuesday’s strike in the town of Khan Sheikhun in Idlib province in the northwest. 113m deal with WB to strengthen weather forecast

MNA Business Desk: The government on Wednesday signed a $113 million financing agreement with the World Bank to modernize the country’s meteorological and hydrological information system, including weather forecasting, early warning systems, and delivery of weather and climate services. The Bangladesh Weather and Climate Services Regional Project (BWCSRP) will help strengthen the water, disaster risk and climate information services in Bangladesh. The project will also pilot a community-level early warning system for flash floods, thunderstorms and droughts in four districts – Netrakona, Sunamganj, Rajshahi and Naogaon.
