University Accreditation Council Bill, 2017 passed

MNA Education Desk: The Parliament passed the ‘Bangladesh Accreditation Council Bill, 2017’ to establish an council to ensure the standard of higher education in both public and private institutions in the country.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid moved the bill in the House and it was passed by voice vote.

According to the bill, the council will have the responsibilities like ensuring quality education, accrediting the higher educational institutions and their curricula, forming separate authorization committee for each discipline following application from any higher educational institution, determining the conditions of the accreditation and confidence certificate and canceling the accreditation and confidence certificate under reasonable grounds.

The council will be an autonomous statutory body headed by a chairman. The council will be comprised of a chairman, four full-time members and eight part-time members.
