Azam Khan’s 7th death anniv today

MNA Feature Desk: Today marks the seventh anniversary of death of Azam Khan, one of the pioneers of pop music.

Songs rendered by him in 1970s and 80s like Ore saleka ore maleka, Hariye gechhe phire pabo na, Ami jare chaire, Ashi ashi bole tumi, Obhimani, Rail liner oi bostite, Sara raat jege jege and Alal o dulal are still popular among the masses.

Born on February 28, 1950, Mahbubul Haque Khan, took the stage name Azam Khan when he started his music career with the band Uchcharan, a pioneering band of the country and Azam was the vocalist of the band.

A valiant freedom fighter he fought against the Pakistani occupation forces during the war of independence in 1971 under Sector 2.

He died on June 5, 2011 at the Dhaka CMH hospital at 61. He was suffering from lung cancer.
