MNA National News: The High Court has fixed Aug 6 for the verdict on the Biswajit Das murder committed at Old Dhaka on Dec 9, 2012.
A tailor by profession, Biswajit Das was hacked to death by activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League or BCL near the Bahadur Shah Park during a strike called by the BNP-led 18-Party alliance on Dec 9, 2012 in broad daylight.
It was a brutal exhibition of the crookedness of few BCL activists and that murder had put the ruling Awami League in a tense and repugnant position as all those accused belonged to the party’s student affiliate, BCL.
A Dhaka court convicted 21 persons, all activists of Chhatra League, for the killing on December 2013. Eight persons were sentenced to death while 13 others got life imprisonment.
As the case moved on to the High Court, the Court will provide its verdict on Aug 6, 2017.
