BNP announced executive standing committees

BNPMNA National Desk: BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) has announced its full-sized executive and National Standing Committees on Saturday, over four and a half months after its national council.

On behalf of BNP Chairperson, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir declared the committees at a press briefing in Nayaplatan party’s central office.

The party declared names of 17 members of the 19-strong body. The new committee comprises of 14 members of the previous period.

The new additions in the committee are former minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and former junior minister Salahuddin Ahmed. Former commerce minister Amir Khosru now leads the party’s Chittagong metropolitan chapter unit. During the last term he served as an adviser to Khaleda.

Salahuddin is now in India, where he is facing trial for illegal trespass after going ‘missing’ from Dhaka last year. He served as the joint secretary general of BNP during the last term.

At the last national council, party councilors permitted Khaleda Zia as party chairperson and her son Tarique Rahman as senior vice chairman.

Two senior leaders, Sarwari Rahman and Shamsul Islam, have been omitted. But, Sarwari Rahman has been made an adviser to the chairperson.

Another two leaders for the posts number 17 and 18 will be selected later. Mirza Fakhrul also declared the members of the party’s executive committee and the chairperson’s advisory panel.

He also announced 35 names for its vice-chairman posts, seven for joint secretary general posts of the party’s central executive committee and 73 advisers to the party chairperson.

Earlier in 3 August, a senior leader said that party senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman has sent a list of leaders to the party chairperson recently, and Khaleda finalized the committee coordinating the list in consultation with some pro-BNP professionals and intellectuals.

And the party also revealed the names for 41 posts in 3 August, including that for secretary-general, senior joint secretary-general, treasurer, joint secretaries general, organizing secretaries and assistant organizing secretaries.
