Case filed over Tongi prison van attack carrying Mufti Hannan

MNA National Desk: A case has been filed with Tongi police station in Gazipur over a crude bomb attack on the prison van carrying Mufti Hannan, chief of the banned militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (Huji), and his associates on Monday.

Police on Monday night filed the case under the anti-terrorism act against Mostafa Kamal, 22, was detained from the spot along with a bag containing two patrol bombs, two sound grenades, two crude bombs and two machetes, and around five others.

The arrested youth reportedly confessed to police that he exploded the bombs targeting the prison van in exchange for Tk 10,000.

Earlier, yesterday the prison van carrying 21 accused in 21 August grenade attack including Mufti Hannan, came under the attack near Tongi College Gate area on Monday while being taken to Kashimpur jail from a Dhaka court.

Mufti Hannan has been awarded the death penalty for killing three people, including policemen, in the grenade attack on former British high commissioner Anwar Chowdhury in Sylhet and the attack at Dhaka’s Ramna Park on the Bengali New Year.
