Chief justice sought one-month leave

MNA National Desk: Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has sought to go on leave for one month. Law and parliamentary affairs minister Anisul Huq on Monday said the chief justice, Surendra Kumar Sinha, has applied for one month’s leave on health grounds.

Talking to media, the minister said that the chief justice submitted the application seeking leave from tomorrow, Tuesday. Anisul said the application was being forwarded to the president’s office. As per rules justice Abdul Wahab Miah would be made acting chief justice.

The chief justice and the ruling party leadership including the prime minister and the law minister were at loggerheads following the 16th amendment annulment verdict which scrapped parliament’s power to sack judges in July.
