MNA Feature Desk: The 20th death anniversary of Shawkat Osman, a noted litterateur of the Bangla literature, was observed yesterday, reported news agency.
Writer Shawkat Osman Smriti Parishad along his family members organised different programmes, marking the day.
Shawkat Osman died in Dhaka on May 14 in 1998. Shawkat Osman fought against communalism, extremism and anti-liberation forces during his lifetime.
Born in Hughli, West Bengal in 1917 he graduated in economics and attained a Masters degree in Bangla from Calcutta University.
He had enriched the Bangla literature with his write-ups, which cover a number of segments of literature. He received a number of awards for his contribution to literature.
His first novel ‘Jononi’ was published in 1958, and his ‘Kritodasher Hashi’, is a widely acclaimed novel. He also wrote short stories, poems, plays and essays.
