Family recognized two of killed militants

militantsMNA National Desk: Family members on Wednesday recognized two of the nine suspected militants killed in an operation by law enforcement agency at Kalyanpur on Tuesday.

One of them was recognized as Jubayer Hossain, 20-year-old, son of Abdul Kaiyum and Ayera Begum and dweller of West Maizdi in Sudharam upazila of Noakhali district. Jubayer was a second-year honours student of Noakhali Government College.

Police said that Jubayer had remained missing since May and he was enlisted on the missing list prepared by Rapid Action Battalion.

Jubayer’s father recognized his son from the pictures of the killed militants posted by the DMP in its Facebook page after the ‘Storm 26’ operation.

Another dead was identified as Sabbirul Hoque, son of Azizul Hoque and dweller of Burangchhara Fulgazi in Anwara upazila of Chittagong district.

Deputy Commissioner (Media) of DMP Masudur Rahman said that, Sabbir had remained missing for the last six months. Sabbir’s parents identified Sabbir after seeing his photograph in DMP’s Facebook page and contacted the Chittagong police super’s office.

Sabbir was a fourth-year student of Chittagong International Islamic University. Law enforcement agency suspects that they were members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

However, talking to the media on Wednesday, Dhaka metro police chief Asaduzzaman Mia said, “We have identified some of those, but I will not say anything else until it is fully verified.”

During a routine search operation, police came under attack while trying to enter a building at Dhaka’s Kalyanpur area. After a night long stand-off, SWAT team stormed the apartment on the fifth floor of the building.

Nine militants were killed and one of their accomplices was taken in custody by the law enforcement agencies during the raid.

Mia also said that samples will be collected from the bodies for DNA test, just like it was done in the case of the Gulshan cafe killers.
