HC order to reopen Lakehead School stayed

MNA Education Desk: The Supreme Court (SC) has stayed a High Court (HC) order on reopening the Lakehead Grammar School in Dhaka. The chamber judge stayed the order on Wednesday after the state challenged the decision, reported news agency.

The decision has been halted until Sunday, when an Appellate Division bench is expected to hear the matter, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said.

On Nov 6, the education ministry ordered the Dhaka district administration to shut the school. The next day, a police team led by a magistrate closed down the school’s branches in Dhanmondi and Gulshan.

The ministry says the school was patronising anti-state activities. The investigators found the allegations true, the official said, requesting anonymity as he was not authorised to speak to the media over the issue.
