Iftar items seekers killed in stampede

MNA National Desk: At least nine people were killed and several injured in stampede while collecting iftar items from a factory authorities ahead of Ramadan in Satkania upazila of Chattogram on Monday.

Identities of the deceased could not be known. But, most of the victims are women.

Md Emran Bhuiyan, Additional Superintendent of Chattogram (South) Police, said the incident took place at a madrasa field in Nolua union this morning.

He said over 30,000 people gathered at the field to collect iftar items following an announcement by Kabir Steel Re-Rolling Mills Limited (KSRM) owner M Shahjahan.

He arranged the distribution programme like previous years. At least six people were killed in stampede in 2007 at the same factory.
