MNA Education Desk (JnU Correspondent): Jagannath University (JnU) on Friday celebrated Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year 1424, amid huge enthusiasm and traditional gaiety.
The auspicious occasion started with bringing out Mongol Shobha Jatra, a procession seeking well-being of all, with decorative replicas of animals as well as elements of Bangali culture led by JnU Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Mijanur Rahman along with the participation of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon as Chief Guest from the university Shaheed Minar premises at 9:00am.
At this, students, with traditional Baishakhi attire, of different educational institutions of old Dhaka carrying festoons, placards, banners, wearing masks and singing Baishakhi songs, folk and classical songs took part in the procession apart from the participation of JnU students, teachers and staffs.
The procession paraded the different roads of the old Dhaka.
Cultural functions and discussions were arranged in front of the university’s Social Science Faculty building premises at 12:00pm to welcome it.
Moreover, a two-day Boishakhi fair with different kinds of products including different toys, clothes, furniture, musical instruments and sweetmeats were held at the premises of Pogose Laboratory School and College, JnU (PLSCJnU).
