MNA National Desk: Physician Muhammed Iqbal Mahmud, who was reportedly abducted from Dhanmondi area in Dhaka on 14 October in 2016, was found alive in Lakshmipur after seven and half months of his alleged abduction.
Lakshmipur police said unknown men dropped Iqbal Mahmud near Goruhata area in Lakshmipur municipality at around 11:00pm on Wednesday with his eyes tied. Iqbal later went to his home in Sadar hospital area in an auto rickshaw.
Muhammed Iqbal Mahmud was whisked away in a microbus by seven or eight people shortly after he got down from a bus at the Science Laboratory intersection around 3:10 am.
He was working at the Lakshmipur sadar hospital after passing the 28th BCS exam. He was then transferred to Comilla medical college.
On 10 October he came to Dhaka for two months’ training at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). His wife is also a physician. She and her children live with her in-laws in Lakshmipur.
CCTV camera footage from the venue showed Iqbal’s kidnapping. The video showed a group of seven or eight men close in on Mahmood and shove him into a microbus. A police pickup van could also be seen behind the microbus.
