MNA Feature Desk: The 33th death anniversary of General Mohammad Ataul Gani Osmani is being observed on Thursday with due respect.
General Osmani, the commander-in-chief of the liberation forces in 1971, died on February 16, 1984 at a hospital in London.
Marking the day, Jatiya Janata Party and different political and socio-cultural organizations have chalked up elaborate programmes.
Osmani joined the war responding to the call of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. General Osmani was born at village Dayamari in greater Sylhet on November 1, 1918.
He joined then British India Military Academy in 1939 and was commissioned in 1940. Osmani was elected member of Pakistan national assembly from the Awami League in 1970.
The nation will always remember Gen Osmani for his contribution to the country’s independence and democracy.
