Massive fire destroys 25 shops in Khilgaon

MNA National Desk: A devastating fire burned down at least 25 shops of two markets in Khilgaon area of capital Dhaka early Thursday.

The fire broke out at Khilgaon City Corporation Market around 3:15am and engulfed the adjoining Pubali Shopping Market in the area, said Kazi Najimozzaman, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defense.

Being informed, 15 firefighting units rushed to the spot and put out the blaze around 5:35am.

But origin of the fire could not be known, and no casualties were reported, the fire service official added.

UNB adds: There are three markets—Khilgaon City Corporation, Pubali Shopping Centre and Uttara Market—in the area housed a total of 1335 shops, said Najimozzaman.

Due to the prompt action taken by the firefighting units, the fire could not spread so much, he added.
