Negative effects of eating junk food

MNA Life Style Desk: There are many negative effects of persistent junk food eating habits, not just the obvious and inevitable weight gain. Junk food can be a good way to save time, but it is not the proper way for nutrition. Junk food is the term given to food that can be prepared and served very quickly. Junk food can also be defined as any food that contributes little or no nutrient value to the diet, but instead provides excess calories and fat.

Cause diabetes

One of major contributing factors for the emerging diabetes epidemic is unhealthy diet full of junk and junk food. When you eat a healthy diet, your body gets a steady supply of glucose, which helps maintain insulin sensitivity.

Trigger digestive problems

Those who are addicted to fatty junk food are bound to suffer from digestive problems like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). That’s because junk food is deep fried. The oil saturated in junk food gets put on the walls of the stomach lining, upsurges acid production.

Heart disease

Junk food items are overloaded with saturated fats and trans-fats that directly increase triglyceride and bad cholesterol (LDL) levels in the blood, contributing to plaque formation and heart disease. Further, causing a sudden spike in blood sugar level rises, junk food damages the linings of the blood vessels causing chronic inflammation.

Kidney disease

High amount of bad fats and sodium from salt disrupts the sodium-potassium balance of the body and origins hypertension. Since the kidney have to filter all the toxins from the blood, eating a lot of junk food has a direct effect on the kidney functioning.

Irregular eating

A healthy person need to eat at a proper time which junk food doesn’t have. Junk food can be consumed at any time or some time twice or thrice a day, while home cooked food is served at proper time which provides opportunity to take rest after eating.

Poor nutrition

When people eat too much junk food, they neglect to eat the nutritious kind like fruits and vegetables and other wholesome food. This means that the body does not get the necessary nutrition it needs and people end up with a weak immune system.
