No more Myanmar citizens allowed in Bangladeshi soil

MNA Editorial Desk: Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Wednesday informed that Bangladesh-Myanmar border has been sealed off to obstruct the further entrance of Myanmar citizens.

“We’ve sealed off our border with Myanmar. No more Rohingyas and other citizens from that country will be allowed in Bangladesh’s land,” he said at a press briefing held at the Foreign Ministry in the afternoon.

Earlier, the minister had a meeting with visiting UNHCR special envoy and famous Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie on the Rohingya issue.

Replying to a question from a journalist, the minister said he had no detailed information about some two lakh Rohingyas who went missing from the refugee camps.

After the atrocities against Rohingya minorities by Myanmar military, the country is now reportedly driving out the Buddhists and ethnic people. A small group of Buddhists has already entered Bangladesh. Members of Boarder Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have sent back some of them from the border.

Regarding the issue, Foreign Minister Abdul Momen said, “Buddhists and people belong to other ethnic groups are now leaving Myanmar because of the clash between rebel Rakhine Army and Myanmar Army. For this reason, we sealed off the border.”
