PM returns home from Austria after IAEA conference

MNA National Desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned home on Wednesday morning after attending the International Conference on the IAEA Technical Cooperation Programme in Vienna.

The VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister and members of her entourage landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 7:20am.

High civil and military officials received the Prime Minister at the airport.

The prime minister addressed the opening session of the conference titled ‘Conference on the IAEA Technical Cooperation Programme: 60 years and Beyond- Contributing to Development’ Tuesday.

She thanked IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano for his efforts to promote a peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Bangladesh and Austria signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) after the official talks.

Bangladesh became a member of the IAEA in 1972. The prime minister’s late husband Dr MA Wazed Miah, a nuclear scientist, played a key role in getting the membership.
