MNA National Desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has returned to Dhaka after attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where she addressed world leaders on the Rohingya crisis.
The flight of prime minister landed at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:30am. Senior leaders of the Awami Leage and its allies in the ruling 14-party coalition, as well as writers, artists, academics, cultural artists, athletes and business leaders welcomed her at the airport.
Road Transportation and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader greeted the PM with a speech during the reception at the airport. Quader defined Sheikh Hasina as the ‘lighthouse of distressed humanity’ and the ‘mother of humanity’ for her management of the Rohingya crisis.
“You have made us look brighter, you have made us feel prouder, you have made us stand taller,” he said.
“Leaders of the Awami League and its affiliates will be on the two sides of the street from the airport to Ganabhaban,” Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-Ul Alam Hanif said. Awami League supporters were waiting in line around the streets near the prime minister’s office.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has earlier promised that there will be ‘no public sufferings due to the reception’.
The prime minister in her address to the General Assembly on Sept 21 emphasized a solution to the Rohingya crisis, urging world leaders to take steps to stop violence in Myanmar that pushed the current influx of refugees.
