Journos continue protest against defamation of Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury

MNA Editorial Desk: A demonstration was held at National Press Club today as journalists keep protesting against defamatory statements at National Parliament and conspiring cases against journalist leader Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and countrywide attack-cases-persecution on journalists.

Dhaka Sub-Editors Council arranged the demonstration while other organizations as Dhaka Journalists Club, Dhaka Online Media Owners association, Mohammadi News Agency, The Daily Observer and many other journalists participated in the protest.

Iqbal Sobhan ChowdhuryProminent journalists and leaders of different journalist organizations spoke at the demonstration. They have protested against the continuous attack on the journalists all over the country; specially the death of Dainik Samakal’s Sirajganj correspondent Abdul Hakim Shimul on Friday and conspiring cases against the editor of the Daily Observer Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and Crime Reporter Mamunur Rashid.

The speakers demanded the attention of the Prime Minister to stop any further defamation and attack on Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and Mamunur Rashid and also requested the Speaker of the National Parliament to restrain from allowing improper statements of the MPs as well as to expunge the statements of Shamim Osman, MP about Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury made at the National Parliament.

Iqbal Sobhan ChowdhuryThey have also demanded lifting off of the two false and conspiring cases against Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, which were filed by two MPs Nijam Hazari and Enamul Haque. They also protested the actions of police in attacking two journalists of ATN News few days ago and also the casual remarks of the Home Minister over the incident.

Among the participants, journalist Jibon Islam, Shahjahan Mia, Nasima Akter Shuma, Kaushik Ahmed, Jahangir Alam Babu, Tusher Abdullah and members of different organization presented their speech. They have assured of continuous protest and harder activities if the mentioned issues are not addressed.
