Quotas for class I and II govt jobs abolished

MNA Education Desk: A cabinet meeting on Wednesday abolished quota system for Class I and II government jobs, reported news agency.

With the approval of the cabinet, the process of abolishing the quota has started. Public administration ministry will soon publish a gazette notification in this regard, said cabinet secretary Md Shafiul Islam at a briefing at the secretariat on Wednesday afternoon.

A committee headed by the cabinet secretary on 17 September submitted a report to the prime minister recommending abolition of the quota system from 9th to 13th grade of government services, following anti-quota protests across the country.

The committee recommended recruiting officers to these posts on the basis of merit.
