MNA Editorial Desk: The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has hiked retail electricity prices by Tk 0.36 or 5.3 per cent, from Tk 6.77 to Tk 7.13 per unit, making the new rate effective from March 01. The BERC announced the decision from a media briefing in Dhaka on Thursday after holding a public hearing on a proposed increase in bulk electricity tariff. Meanwhile, the BERC increased the wholesale prices of power by 8.4 per cent, from Tk 4.77 to Tk 5.17 per unit. MNA National Desk: The High Court on Sunday has declared the second increase in the price of household gas this year to be illegal. A HC-bench comprising Jutice Jinat Ara and Justice Kazi Mohammad Izarul Haque Akand issued the verdict after concluding the hearing on the rule. MNA Editorial Desk: The BERC announced the 22.7 percent average hike in gas prices on Thursday. It will be effective in two phases in March and June. The decision of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) to hike gas prices has triggered discomfort among different sections of consumers.
