Congestion kills 3.2m working hours per day: WB

MNA Exclusive Desk: The traffic congestion in Dhaka eats up 3.2 million working hours per day, according to a new World Bank analysis shared at a high-level international conference in the city on Wednesday. The average traffic speed in capital Dhaka has dropped from 21 kms per hour to 7 kms, slightly above the average walking speed, in the last 10 years, it said. A declaration was made that 16 Union Councils will be added to Dhaka as they will be merged with the two City Corporations. The government has cleared on Monday the merging of 16 union councils into the two Dhaka city corporations expanding the city’s area by more than double. The decision was cleared at a meeting of the National Implementation Committee on Administrative Reform (NICAR) chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Secretariat.
