Govt forms panel over quota system review


MNA Education Desk: The government has formed a seven-member committee with Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam as its convener to review the existing quota system in public service, reported news agency. The other members of the committee are secretaries of the Public Administration, Finance Division, Liberation War Affairs, Legislative Division and PSC and PMO acting secretary, he said. The committee has been asked to submit its report within 15 working days. 4 held over vandalism at DU VC’s residence


MNA Education Desk: Police have arrested a madrasa student and three others on charges of attacking and vandalising the Dhaka University vice chancellor’s residence, reported news agency. The four suspects have been identified as Md Masud Alam alias Masud, 25, Md Rakibul Hasan alias Rakib, 26, Md Ali Hossain Sheikh alias Ali, 28, and Abu Sayeed Fazle Rabbi alias Siyam, 20. Attack launched to kill me: DU VC


MNA National Desk: Dhaka University Vice-chancellor Professor Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman on Monday claimed that the attack made on his residence during angry protests against the existing quota system in public service was a planned one to kill him. DU students form human chain


MNA Education Desk: Students of Geography and Environmental Science Department at Dhaka University on Monday formed a human chain in front of the Annex Building protesting police action on the demonstrating students. The hour-long human chain began at about 11am. Students, who joined the human chain with placards and festoons, said the government should accept the demand for reforming quota system as the demand is legitimate.
