Landslide death toll hits 140, rescuers digging for survivors


MNA Editorial Desk: Rescuers went from door to door searching for information on people who might be missing Wednesday after massive landslides crashed onto villages and killed at least 140 in the southeastern area. As many as 106 people died in Rangamati alone while 21 bodies were revered from Rangunia and Chandanaish and three from Bandarban and one from Khagracchari. Landslides in Rangamati, Bandarban kill 20


MNA National Desk: More than 20 people were killed in separate landslides in different area of Rangamati and Bandarban districts on Tuesday. Identities of all deceased could not be known immediately. Around 13 bodies were recovered at Rangamati, six at Bandarban and four people were found dead at Chittagong after the mudslides. Rangamati JL leader murdered for motorbike: Police


MNA National Desk: Rangamati Jubo League leader Nurul Islam Nayan was murdered as the attackers wanted to hijack his motorbike, said police. Ali Ahasan Khan, the superintendent of police in Khagrachhari, said this after the army-led joint force arrested two people — Runel Chakma and Junel Chakma — for their alleged involvement in the killing. 400 sued over Langadu arson attack


MNA National Desk: More than 400 people were sued on charges of attacking and torching 100 houses in Langadu upazila of Rangamati following the killing of a Juba League leader. Langadu Police Station sub-inspector Dulal filed the case accusing 15 named and around 400 unnamed people on Friday night. Municipality polls in Baghaichhari start under new EC


MNA National Desk: Voting in the municipality polls in Rangamati’s Baghaichhari upazila, the first polls under the newly formed Election Commission (EC), is ongoing. The balloting began at 8:00am and will continue till 4:00pm without any break, reported news agency.
