MNA National Desk: The cabinet has approved a draft of the Digital Security Act, which amends parts of the ICT Act, including the controversial section 57. Section 57 criminalised ‘publishing fake, obscene or defaming information in electronic form’. The approval for the ‘Digital Security Act 2018’ draft was granted at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday. Misuse of Section-57 should stop: Quader

MNA National Desk: Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said the misuse of Section-57 of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act should be stopped. The minister told this to reporters after inaugurating the Metrorail construction work in front of Survey Department Office in Agargaon in Dhaka. “Arresting the journalist in Khulna after suing him under Section-57 is a misuse of the section of ICT Act. MNA Editorial Desk: Prime Minister’s information affairs adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said that the Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act will be cancelled soon. He said that the government has taken the initiative of scrapping the Section 57 of ICT Act following movement of the journalists across the country.
