Tripartite deal signed for country’s first bio-tech industry

MNA Business Desk: Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA), Oryx Bio-Tech Limited and Summit Technopolis Limited signed a tripartite agreement today (Tuesday) to establish the country’s first bio-tech Industry.

As per the agreement, the bio-tech venture will facilitate manufacturing drugs require to provide treatment for critical disease like cancer and different types of infections.

Hosne Ara Begum, Managing Director (MD) of the BHTPA and Abu Reza Khan MD of the Summit Technopolis Limited inked the agreements on behalf of their respective organisations at the ceremony held at ICT division headquarters while David Bo, MD of the Oryx Bio-Tech Limited signed virtually.

Under the agreement, the country will receive foreign investment worth US $300 million through the project and generate high value employment for nearly 2,000 people.

The bio-tech industry will be established at the Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City in Gazipur’s Kaliakoir.

Nasrul Hamid, State Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, joined the occasion virtually as the Chief Guest, while the ICT state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP, Honorable presided over at a ceremony held at the ICT Division office in the city’s Agargaon.

Muhammed Aziz Khan, Chairman, Summit Group and N M Zeaul Alam, Senior Secretary to the ICT Division joined the programme as the special guests.

The company will establish the factory with the handling capacity of around 1,200 tonnes of plasma for manufacturing import substitute and life-saving biomedicine and derivatives.

Sinopharm, partially owned by China National Pharmaceutical Group Co Ltd, will provide technical support to manufacture quality output.
