A woman detained for involvement in Gulshan attack

WomanMNA National Desk: A woman has been detained for suspected involvement in Gulshan terror attack on a cafe that killed 22 persons, as media said on Friday.

Ruma Akhtar, 28-yaer-old, was picked up on Thursday by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on charges of her involvement in the attack.

Her father, Shahaboddin Ahmed Badu, told to media that detectives took her away from their house saying she was a suspect in the July 1 attack. “But I don’t know the reason behind her detention,” he added.

However, the family of Ruma said that she went to Dubai six months ago but returned three months later. Ruma is the youngest among four children and she has a son with her former husband. She married another man but divorced again.

According to her father, Ruma had been speaking to people over phone and behaved like a mad person on her return from Dubai. She also used to ask people for money like beggars.

“Ruma had worked in several houses as maid. She had psychological problems. She was also taken to doctors over this issue.” her sister Sabina Akter said.

CCTV footage following the incident of the Gulshan attack released by RAB showed that a woman dressed in traditional attire and a bag slung on her shoulder.

Rapid Action Battalion on Tuesday said that it has recognized four suspects including one woman and three men from CCTV footage who might have been linked in the Holey Artisan Bakery attack on 1 July.

The RAB recognized the four people after inspecting a CCTV video footage. The video footage shows that the four people were speaking to each other in a group and walking on a road in front of the Holey Artisan restaurant on the night.

Law enforcement agency also suspected that a silver-colored microbus might have been used by the assailants throughout the attack.

Anyone with information about the suspects has been requested to contact RAB at nearby offices, camps or through their hotline at 01777720050.
