2nd span installed on Padma Bridge

MNA National Desk: The second span of the much-hyped Padma Bridge was installed between pillars 38 and 39 on Sunday morning. With the installation of the second span around 8:30am, a total of 300 metres of the Padma Bridge is now visible.

Earlier on Saturday, the second span of the bridge could not be installed due to the depth and strong current in the river.

The installation of the second span was delayed a number of times before. This particular span was supposed to be placed on January 23 and later on January 25.

The work for placing the span started from early Saturday morning. The grey coloured span, which has a length of 150 meters and a weight of 3,140 tons, was placed upon the lifting frame and bearing between pillars no 38 and 39.

A total of 41 spans, each 150 metres long, will be installed on 42 concrete pillars of the 6.15-km bridge, reported news agency.
