AL secures people’s trust through landslide victory

MNA Editorial Desk: The ruling Awami League (AL) led alliance has secured a landslide victory in the 11th parliamentary elections held across the country on Sunday. They are going to form the government for the consecutive third term under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Unofficial results show that Awami League led alliance secured 289 seats with Awami League itself winning 266 seats while its main opponent Jatiyo Oikyo Front which includes BNP and Jamaat leaders winning only 7 seats out of 299 constituencies, according to a private Television. Through this result Sheikh Hasina and her government successfully retained people’s trust.

Through this big win, the ruling party is going to form government for the third consecutive terms. The party ruled the country for the last 10 years after wining the national elections in 2008 and 2014.

Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, however, is going to be prime minister of the country for the fourth time.

BNP-led Jatiya Oikyafront rejected the Sunday’s election and it demanded fresh polls under non-party government immediately saying that fair election is not possible under a partisan government. But it was found a calm and participatory environment throughout the country mostly.

The election observers from home and abroad have also appreciated the peaceful environment and voters’ joyous participation in the polls.

As many as 16 people lost their lives and several injured in the polls violence but their total figure is yet to be confirmed. A total of 57 candidates boycotted Sunday’s parliamentary election, citing various irregularities, including vote rigging.

For different irregularities, the Election Commission (EC) suspended voting in 22 out of total 40,000 polling centers across the country.

Voters seemed very happy with the environment and result of this election as one voter said that this result would ensure that the progress of Bangladesh would not be halted anymore.
