Central Hospital doctors get bail over DU student’s death

MNA Education Desk: Eight doctors, including Prof Dr ABM Abdullah, of Dhaka’s Central Hospital have been granted bail in a medical malpractice case over the death of a Dhaka University student.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Khurshid Alam granted the bail after the accused had surrendered to the court in the morning. Hospital director MA Kashemwas also freed on bail on Friday in this regard.

Bail was set at Tk 30,000 for each of the suspects.

Prof Dr ABM Abdullah, Kashem Yusuf, Dr Mortuza, Lt Col ASM Matlebur Rahman, Dr Masuma Parvin, Dr Jahanara Begum Mona, Dr Maksud Parvin and Dr Tapan Kumar Boiragi were the suspects released on bail.

First-year Dhaka University Life Sciences Department student Afia Jain Choiti died on Thursday evening at Green Road’s Central Hospital.

As the death news spread, some 150-200 students protested the incident and vandalized several rooms of the hospital.

They allege that Choiti had been admitted due to dengue fever, but had been treated for cancer instead.
