Upazila chairman sued for walking on ‘human bridge’

MNA Editorial Desk: A guardian has sued five people, including the Haimchar upazila chairman of Chandpur district, for walking over a ‘human bridge’ made of schoolchildren during the sports day of Nilkamal Osmania High School.

Ali Ahmad, a guardian of a student of the school, filed the lawsuit with Haimchar police on Wednesday night, terming the upazila chairman’s behavior against children cruel.

The accused in the case are — Haimchar upazila chairman Nur Hossain Patwary, Nilkamal Osmania High School’s managing body president Humayun Patwary, principal Mosharraf Hossain and members Mansur Ahmad and Abul Bashar.

Earlier, on 30 January, some students of Nilkamal Osmania High made a symbolic ‘Padma bridge’ joining their hands on the occasion of the annual sports day of the school and Haimchar Upazila Chairman Nur Hossain Patwari , who attended  the programme as the chief guest, walked over the students’ bodies.

The picture has elicited a volley of criticism on the social media. This is not the first time this has happened in the school. Whenever they have a chief guest, they make this human bridge for him to cross.
