Gulshan, Banani, Dhanmondi get 10 months to remove illegal structures

MNA National Desk: The High Court (HC) on Wednesday ordered owners of the illegal structures in Gulshan, Banani and Dhanmondi areas to remove their installations within 10 months.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice A.K.M. Zahirul Hoque issued the order, disposing of 233 separate writs filed in this regard.

Petitioners’ counsel ABM Altaf Hossain told the media that the court said that RAJUK or the utility service providers will not able to take any measure within the 10 months.

“After the deadline ends, RAJUK will be able to conduct drives without prior notice.” He added.

RAJUK issued notice to the owners of the illegal structures in the areas in 2015 and even carried out eviction drives in July, 2016, after the Holey Artisan attack.

But the owners then moved to the court and filed writ petitions one after another against the RAJUK.
