PM calls ex-Major Sinha’s mother, assures of fair trial

MNA National Desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday phoned the mother of the retired Army major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan, who was killed in police firing on Friday night in Cox’s Bazar.

During the phone call, the premier condoled his mother over his death, reads a press release today.

PM Sheikh Hasina also assured of a proper investigation into the incident and trial as well as financial assistance to the family.

Earlier on Friday night, Sinha was killed in police firing in Cox’s Bazar Marine Drive.

Sources at police said Sinha was going to Cox’s Bazar from Teknaf with some other persons in his personal vehicle. When police officials at the Baharchhara check post of the Marine Drive stopped the car to check it, he tried to stop the police personnel and got into a verbal altercation with them.

At one stage, Sinha tried to pull his gun out, the sources said, adding that at this point the policeman shot him.

Critically injured, he was rushed to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The autopsy was done on Saturday noon.
