India’s current account gap narrows in June quarter vs year ago

MNA Business Desk: India’s current account deficit (CAD) narrowed to 2.0 per cent of gross domestic product in the June quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2020 from 2.3 per cent in the same period a year ago due to higher invisible receipts, the central bank said. On a quarterly basis, however, the CAD widened sharply from 0.7 per cent of GDP seen in the March quarter. Trade gap stands at $14.65b in July-May

MNA Business Desk: Country’s merchandise trade deficit with the rest of the world stood at US$14.65 billion during the first 11 months of the past fiscal year (FY19). Central bank statistics, released this week, showed that merchandise trade gap declined by around 15 per cent during the period under review. It was $17.15 billion in July-May period of the previous fiscal year (FY18). Double digit growth in export earnings and single digit growth is import payments contributed in reducing the trade gap significantly. July-Jan marks drop in trade deficit

MNA Business Desk: Country’s merchandise trade deficit with the rest of the world declined slightly in the first seven months of the current fiscal year compare to the same period of the past fiscal year. Central bank statistics, released this afternoon, showed that trade deficit stood at $9.68 billion in July-January period of FY19 which was $10.07 billion in the same period of FY18. Thus, trade gap declined by 3.88 per cent in the first seven months of the current fiscal.
