The month of mourning August begins

MNA Feature Desk: Today is the first day of mourning August. On 15 August 1975, the Bengali nation lost Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, the best son of the millennium.

On the night of 15th August, the assassins not only killed Bangabandhu, but also Bangabandhu’s wife Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, Bangabandhu’s children Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal, Sheikh Russell and daughter-in-law Sultana Kamal and Rosi Jamal. Bangabandhu’s brother Sheikh Nasser, brother-in-law Abdur Rob Serniabat, nephew youth leader and journalist Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni, his wife Arju Moni and 17 family members and relatives including Colonel Jamil could not escape from this heinous murder.

As always, the Awami League, in solidarity with the bereaved Bengali nation, has taken various programs centrally on the occasion of observing the National Mourning Day on August 15 with due dignity. Besides, various socio-cultural and political organizations will observe the month-long National Mourning Day through various programs in an atmosphere of due dignity, respect, love and seriousness.

With the 15th of August in mind, the programs of the allied and fraternal organizations including the Awami League are starting from the first day of August. The National Day of Mourning on August 15 will be officially celebrated throughout the month.

Awami Swechchhasebak League and Chhatra League lit a procession and lit candles in the direction of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum along Dhanmondi Road No. 32 at 12:01 pm on the first day of the month of mourning. Besides, blood donation and plasma collection program will start at 3 pm at Bangabandhu Bhaban premises.

After the holy Eid-ul-Azha prayers, a prayer mahfil has been organized at the initiative of Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League to seek forgiveness of the souls of all the martyrs killed on August 15 including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Awami League General Secretary, Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader on 15th August, the 45th Martyrdom Anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day. He appealed to the people.

At the same time, he requested the leaders of all the districts, metropolises, upazilas, municipalities, unions and wards of the Bangladesh Awami League to commemorate and observe the day by adopting their own programs in line with the central program.
