MNA National Desk: The much-awaited verdict in two cases filed over the grisly grenade attack on an Awami League rally in city’s Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21, 2004 will be delivered on Wednesday.
The attack was launched on a political rally with the aim of killing the then opposition leader, now Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, claimed 24 lives and injured 300 others.
On September 18, Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal(STT)-1 judge Shahed Nuruddin set the date of delivering the judgement in two cases where 49 people, including BNP’s Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman and the then State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar, were made accused.
On completion of the argument from both sides, the STT-1 fixed the date and ordered to send the eight accused who are on bail to jail.
A total of 225 prosecution witnesses and 20 defence witnesses testified in the trial, reported news agency.
