MNA National Desk: Police on Monday raided the residence of Shafat Ahmed, an accused in a case filed over raping two university girls in Banani.
A team of Banani police went to house no. 62 at Gulshan-2 around 1:00pm. But they failed to arrest Shafat as he was absence in his residence.
Two sub-inspectors (SI) of Banani police along with a team of around 10 police members conducted the drive. Police went to his Gulshan home several times but could find him, claimed Banani police.
On Saturday, one of the victims filed the case accusing five people. Shafat and Nayem Ashraf allegedly raped the girls more than a month ago in a hotel while three others assisted them.
Shafat’s father Dildar Ahmed, one of the owners of Apan Jewellers, said his 26-year-old son was home until Monday evening.
Earlier, the National Human Rights Commission has formed a five-member probe panel to look into the incident.
The fact-finding committee was formed with NHRC fulltime member M Nazrul Islam as its convener, said a press release on Monday.
The other committee members are NHRC honorary members Nurun Naher Osmani and Enamul Hoque Chowdhury, its director (Complaints & Inquiry) M Shorif Uddin and wing assistant director M Rabiul Islam. The committee has been asked to submit its report within the next 15 days.
