MNA National Desk: After failing to secure authorization for a rally in Dhaka, the BNP has said it will protest by launching countrywide demonstrations on Sunday.
The announcement came from a media conference after police cordoned off the BNP Dhaka central office at Naya Paltan.
However, police have cordoned off the BNP headquarters even as the party is yet to secure permission to hold a rally in the capital.
Hundreds of policemen and plainclothes intelligence officers, water cannons and prison vans started gathering in front of the BNP office since this early morning.
BNP leaders and activists alleged that nobody was allowed to get into and come out of the office. But police denied the allegation and said they only tighten the security to prevent any unpleasant incident.
The BNP has asked for permission to organize a rally on Saturday in front of its Naya Paltan central office if it does not get Suhrawardy Udyan as the venue for the proposed rally.
But the permission has not been given by the police.
Earlier, law enforcement agency on Thursday allegedly beat up the leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in 16 districts and obstructed their ‘Democracy Killing Day’ programmers countrywide observed marking the lopsided 5 January general elections of 2014.
