MNA National Desk: A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to Monirul Haque Sakku, the newly elected mayor of Comilla City Corporation (CCC) till 24 May, in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in 2008.
Md Jahedul Kabir, acting judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge court passed the order after the mayor’s lawyer Masud Ahmed Talukder, sought bail for his client.
Earlier on 18 April, the court issued an arrest warrant against Sakku. The mayor is scheduled to take oath on 11 May.
The BNP leader, who has been elected for a second term in the city corporation polls held in March, stands accused of acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income and hiding asset details.
In 2008, the ACC filed the case with the Ramna police in Dhaka and charges were pressed against Sakku and his wife in February last year.
