England set 286-run target for Bangladesh

286-run targetMNA Sports Desk: England set 286-run target for Bangladesh in the opening Test as tigers have bowled England out for 240 in the second innings in Chittagong.

By the close, England had recovered from a shameful 64 for 5 in their second innings to reach the close on 228 for 8 – an overall lead of 273 – with Stuart Broad and Chris Woakes once again demonstrating the depth of England’s batting resources in a comfortable ninth-wicket stand.

However, with the second new ball looming within four overs of the resumption, the vagaries of the pitch are sure to be revealed once again when Bangladesh’s spinners are once again armed with a hard new cherry, which in turn will reaffirm the magnificence of Stokes’ performance.

The visitors batted for about 20 minutes in the morning, adding 12 runs to their overnight total of 286-run target for nine before they were bundled out.

They scored 12 runs in 4.2 overs in the morning and lost both their remaining wickets. First, Stuart Broad was run out after he and Chris Woakes had decided to take on Mehedi Hasan’s arm at gully by trying to scamper for a quick single. The youngster was quick to throw to Mushfiqur Rahim, who pulled off neat glovework to catch Broad short of his crease.

Coming to bat in the second innings Tamim Iqbal has departed for only 9 run (Bangladesh 35 for 1). A delivery after a big appeal for a catch at slip had gone upstairs, only for hotspot to return images that supported the on-field umpire’s soft calls of not out, Iqbal has been caught at forward short leg off Moeen Ali.

Later Imrul Keyes did well to set the tone for Bangladesh, but an attempted sweep shot off Adil Rashid has led to his downfall. He walks back for 43 off 61 balls.
