Gender discrimination at all community levels

genderMNA Editorial Desk: Bangladesh suffers from gender discrimination and it is presenting at all community levels. We can see that gender discrimination between women and men is quite strong. In Bangladesh, women are dependent on men through their lives: fathers, husbands, and sons.

Discrimination refers to the ability to make or find out the difference to sensitivity, judgment, of something in our daily life. There are many types of discrimination such as gender, age, race, and many more.

Among them gender discrimination is very common around the world. Gender discrimination is when men or women are discriminate against as a result of their gender.

Women and young girls are more underprivileged than men in regards to education, health care and financial assets. There are numerous factors that make gender discrimination happen in Bangladesh. Gender discrimination starts from birth and continues throughout life in Bangladesh.

Discrimination grows between boys and girls, and boys are considered to be more advantageous and the girls are considered to as burden of the family. Girls often suffer discrimination both within school and within the community- from teachers, parents and peers.

Besides that, discrimination also happens in educational organizations. Though women make up half of the population of Bangladesh, they still account for only about a third of the labour market, often working at the lowest level of the jobs hierarchy with little employment safety.

Since long run the women of Bangladeshi women have been fighting to establish their rights in family, society and in the state. The history of Bangladesh speaks that in any type of revolution or in positive change, both men and women worked hand by hand.

They put equal role in all these movements. We know that in the Liberation war of Bangladesh, the contribution of the women directly or indirectly is remarkable. In the constitution, the article 26, 27, 28 and 29, the equal right of the women is declared.

Especially in the article 27, it is declared that “All citizens are equal in front of law and should be provided by the state same shelter.” In Islam equality occupies a great variety of importance. If you read the Quran and Hadith, you should know that in different sura this issue got importance.

But basically in the society women are still facing discrimination. The male person dominates the patriarchal society, so the women are continuously becoming the targets of violence.

Apparently many positive changes have been achieved but in reality some discrimination still remains in the different areas in Bangladesh which we much addressed so that women could identify the problem themselves.
