MNA National Desk: Kishore Bangla family expressed deep sorrow over the demise of senior journalist and Director General of Bangladesh Press Institute (PIB) Shah Alamgir. Current Editor of Kishore Bangla Mir Mosharref Hossain Pakbir expressed grief on his death. He was 62 years old during his demise.
Shah Alamgir worked on several important roles in different prit and electronic media throughout his 35 years of journalism life. Before joining PIB, he was the CEO and Chief Editor of Asian Television.
He started his career as a journalist by joining sub-continent’s first childrens’ and teenagers’ magazine weekly Kishore Bangla. He served there as Assistant Editor from 1980 to 1984. He contributed in education along with sports, cultural practices for healthy mental development of children and teenagers by getting associated with prominent children and teenager organization Chader Haat. He died as President of Central Chader Haat.
During the journey, he served as Chief News Editor of Dainik Janata, Banglar Bani, Azad, Sangbad, Prothom Alo and Channel I; Head of News of Ekushey Television; Director (News) of Jamuna Television and Head of News of Masranga Television.
Shah Alamgir also served as president and General Secretary of Dhaka Reporters Union.
Along with PIB chief, he also served as Managing Director of Bangladesh Sangbadik Kolyan Trust.
For his contribution in journalism, he received many acclamation and awards.
President of National Press Club and Acting Editor of Daily Jugantor Saiful Alam after attending Shah Alamgir’s third Namaaz-e-Janaza at National Press Club said expressing grief, “It feels like my first death with Shah Alamgir’s demise. I had friendship with him since childhood. We started as students of school, college, university and as members of Kishore Bangla and Chader Haat together. Shah Alamgir had all the virtues of a good man. A great damage to the media occurred with his demise.”
Kishore Bangla’s current Editor Mir Mosharref Hossain Pakbir said in grief after attending Janaza, “ The nation has lost a great journalist today with Shah Alamgir’s death. An unbridgeable vacuum has been created in the media sector of Bangladesh with the demise of this famed journalist. He served in top roles of different top print and electronic media with his own ability and effort. He was highly acclaimed for his role as a mentor of journalism at central and field level. He was dear to everyone for his amiable and gentle nature. He contributed a lot for the welfare of journalists and all will remember that forever.”
“We have to follow his signature of his illustrious career, effort for journalists’ welfare, talent, honesty and integrity to honor his soul truly. If we do so, Shah Alamgir will not be lost,” he added.
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud; PM’s media advisor, Editor of the Daily observer and Chairman of DBC Television Channel Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury; State Minister of Shipping Kahlid Mahmud Chowdhury; MP and former journalist leader Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman; PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim; BFUJ President Mollah Jalal; Former BFUJ President Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul; Bangladesh Protidin Editor Noyeem Nizam; DG of BFUJ Shaban Mahmud; DRU President Abu Jafar Shurjo and others attended the janaza.
People of different class and occupation paid homage to Shah Alamgir. BFUJ, DUJ, DRU, CRAB, Bangladesh Photo Journalist Association and other journalist organization paid homage. Shah Alamgir’s dear Kishore Bangla’s Editor, Director of the Daily Observer, Chief Editor of Mohammadi News Agency and Chief Patron of Bangabandhu Shishu Kishore Mela Mir Mosharref Hossain Pakbir; Managing Editor of Kishore Bangla Nuronnab Sarker Tushar; Associate Editor of Kishore Bangla Kaushik Ahmed; General Manager of Kishore Bangla Saiful Haque Siddique and other members of Kishore Bangla family and President of Banglabandhu Shishu Kishore Mela Miah Monsaf was also attended the janaza and paid homage.
President Md. Abdul Hamid, PM Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury and opposition leader HM Ershad expressed grief over the demise of Shah Alamgir.
