SC fined 10 private medical colleges

finedMNA National Report: The SC (Supreme Court) has fined Tk. 10 million each on 10 private medical colleges for admitting students who did not fulfill requirements fixed by the government.

The appeal bench led by Surendra Kumar Sinha, Chief Justice, ordered the fines of the ten private medical colleges on Sunday.

It asked the colleges to pay the fine within 10 days. The court also asked the medical colleges to pay half of the fine to Dhaka University authorities while the rest of the fine will be similarly distributed between National Lever Foundation and Kidney Foundation.

MH Samorita Medical College, City Medical College, Nightingale Medical College, ZH Sikder Medical College, AR Medical College, East West Medical College, Tairunnessa Memorial Medical College, Aichi Medical College, Care Medical College and Ashiyan Medical College are fined.

The colleges had admitted 153 students in 2014-15 session, who failed to obtain the minimum score at the admission test held by the health ministry.

The Dhaka University authorities filed an appeal and the Supreme Court gave its decision on Sunday.
