Switzerland President arrives in Dhaka

MNA National Desk: Switzerland President Alain Berset has arrived in Dhaka for a tour of the Rohingya refugee camps in the first visit by a Swiss head of state to Bangladesh.

Berset was met by his Bangladeshi counterpart President Md Abdul Hamid after arriving at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:23pm on Sunday.

The Swiss president will also engage in bilateral talks during his four-day visit to Bangladesh.

On Mar 13, 1972 Switzerland recognised Bangladesh and established diplomatic relations with the country.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali will meet the Swiss President at Sonargaon Hotel at 6:00pm on Sunday.

On Monday, President Berset will visit Savar National Mausoleum to pay homage to Liberation War martyrs.

He will also visit Bangabandhu Museum at Dhanmondi to pay respect to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The Swiss President will have official talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office on Monday afternoon.

The two nations celebrated the 45th anniversary of their ties last year. The Swiss president will leave Dhaka on Feb 7.
