MNA International Desk: Embattled Haiti Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant resigned on Saturday following deadly violence and looting sparked by a now-abandoned plan to raise fuel prices. “I submitted my resignation to the president of the republic,” who has “accepted my resignation,” Lafontant said in the lower house of Haiti’s legislature. Lafontant had faced a potential vote of no confidence had he not resigned — something he had previously insisted he would not do. MNA International Desk: The full scale of the devastation in hurricane-hit rural Haiti became clear Friday as the death toll reached 900, three days after Hurricane Matthew leveled huge swaths of the country’s south. While the capital and biggest city, Port-au-Prince, was largely spared, the south suffered devastation, reported news agency. Aerial footage from the hardest-hit towns showed a ruined landscape of metal shanties with roofs blown away and downed trees everywhere. Brown mud from overflowing rivers covered the ground.
