Nominal wage rate increases by 6.56pc in January

MNA Business Desk: Country’s nominal wage rate index (WRI) increased by 6.56 per cent in January this year over the same period of last year, according to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). It also showed that the WRI for agriculture posted 6.77 per cent growth during the period under review. The WRI for industry and services sectors also increased by 6.14 per cent and 6.52 per cent respectively in the first month of the current calendar year over the same month of 2019. MNA Business Desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday urged bank owners not to go back on their promise this time as in the past to bring down the interest rate to single digit. “I’ve fulfilled all of your demands one after another, but you didn’t keep your promise. BB circular soon for implementing single-digit interest rates

MNA Business Desk: The Bangladesh Bank will issue a circular immediately asking the scheduled banks to ensure single-digit interest rates on both lending and deposit. Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal made the announcement after a meeting with chairmen and managing directors of the different scheduled banks at the central bank headquarters in the city on Sunday. The BB circular will ask the scheduled banks to bring down the interest rates on lending and deposit to 9.0 per cent and 6.0 per cent respectively. Co-operatives call to withdraw 15 per cent income tax

MNA Business Desk: Co-operative leaders have urged the government policy-makers including the Ministry of Finance to withdraw 15 per cent income tax on co-operative societies. The Co-operative Credit Union League of Bangladesh Limited (CCULB) in a statement signed by its Chairman Jonas Dhaki and Secretary Emdad Hossain Malek, said the existing income tax had been hampering the socio-economic development of distressed and under-privileged people.
