Annisul Huq hospitalised in London

MNA National Desk: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq was admitted to a hospital in London with nervous system complications. Annisul Huq is now in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of hospital as he is suffering from a brain disease called cerebral vasculitis.

The mayor had been suffering from various health complications for the last two months. Earlier, on Jul 29, Huq went to London to visit his daughter.

“He was suffering from cerebral vasculitis. It was not detected in Dhaka. He was suffering for the last two months with occasional spells of dizziness and lack of balance,” the mayor’s wife Rubana Haq told to the Daily Star.

However, Annisul took oath as mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on May 6, 2015. He is the Chairman of ‘Mohammadi Group’. Huq was a regular host on Bangladesh Television in the early 1980s.

He is also the current president of Bangladesh Independent Power Producers Association (BIPPA). He was the former president of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI, 2010 – 2012). Huq served as the former president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) for two consecutive terms in 2005 and 2006.  He was also the former president of the Federation of the Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce (FBCCI) from 2008-2010.

Mr. Huq works alongside his family, most notably his wife Mrs. Rubana Huq, who is the Managing Director of Mohammadi Group. Mrs. Huq won the SAARC Literary Award for her book of poems “Time of My Life” in 2009. In 2014, she was chosen to be the only woman from Bangladesh for BBC’s 100 Women Conference featuring 100 women from around the world.

Mr. and Mrs. Huq have three children. Navidul Huq, the eldest and only son is currently the director of Mohammadi Group and Managing Director of Desh Energy Ltd. Wamiq Umaira is currently working at the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland. Tanisha Huq recently completed her bachelors in Political Science and Economics form Simmons College in Boston.
