Executive magistrates can operate mobile courts 2 weeks more

MNA National Desk: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court extended two weeks the stay on a High Court order that declared the operation of mobile courts by the executive magistrates illegal.

The lawyers said the executive magistrate can operate mobile courts during this time.

A seven-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order following three separate leave to appeal petitions challenging the HC verdict.

The matter was placed before the court for hearing on 21 May. The court stayed the hearing till 2 July. The court adjourned for two weeks on Tuesday.

On behalf of the state, attorney general Mahbubey Alam sought time for four weeks. The court granted two weeks. Lawyer Hasan MS Azim stood for the writ petitioner.
